Get clear answers to common questions about sports performance training, TrueAP training programs, and how to get started.

Sports performance training is a structured approach to improving the physical abilities athletes need to perform better in their sport.

At True Athlete Performance, athletes develop speed, strength, power, agility, and movement efficiency through progressive programming, hands-on coaching, and consistent performance testing. Training is designed to improve overall athletic performance while reinforcing proper technique and reducing injury risk.

True Athlete Performance specializes in training youth and high school athletes ages 8–18.

Our training system is designed to meet athletes at their current stage of development, from building foundational movement skills at younger ages to developing advanced speed, strength, power, and performance as they progress.

We also provide Team Training for youth and high school teams and organizations.

No. TrueAP is designed for athletes at different ages, ability levels, and stages of development.

Younger and developing athletes focus on building strong movement foundations, proper technique, coordination, speed, and strength. As athletes progress, their training evolves to include more advanced speed, strength, power, and performance development.

Each athlete trains at an appropriate level based on their current abilities and development, not simply their age or sport.

True Athlete Performance offers two primary training options:

  • Athlete Training: Small-group sports performance training for athletes ages 8–18, focused on developing speed, strength, power, agility, and overall athletic performance. Private and semi-private training options are also available.
  • Team Training: Professionally coached sports performance training for teams and organizations, designed to improve speed, agility, and explosiveness while reducing injury risk.

Both programs follow the TrueAP training system, combining progressive programming, hands-on coaching, and measurable performance testing.

TrueAP focuses on measurable athlete development, not just workouts.

Athletes follow a structured, progressive training program built around their individual needs and are regularly tested to track improvements in speed, strength, power, and agility. This allows athletes and parents to see exactly how performance is progressing over time.

With hands-on coaching, individualized programming, and objective performance testing, every athlete trains with a clear purpose and a plan for long-term development.

TrueAP uses objective performance testing to establish a baseline and measure improvement throughout the training process.

Athletes are tested on key performance metrics such as sprint speed, vertical jump, broad jump, agility, and other measures relevant to athletic performance. Results are tracked over time so athletes, parents, and coaches can see where progress is being made and where additional development is needed.

This data also helps our coaches adjust training as the athlete develops, ensuring their program continues to match their individual needs and goals.

For most athletes, 2-3 training sessions per week provides the best opportunity for consistent improvement in speed, strength, power, and overall athletic performance.

During busy in-season periods, training frequency can be adjusted around practices and games. Even one quality session per week can help maintain progress and keep athletes from losing the gains they’ve worked to build.

Our coaches help families determine the right training schedule based on the athlete’s goals, season, and sport commitments.

Yes. Long-term athletic development requires consistent, year-round training.

During the offseason, athletes can train more frequently to build speed, strength, power, and overall athletic capacity. As practices and games increase, training volume is adjusted rather than stopped completely.

Even one quality session per week can help maintain speed and power, protect progress, and prevent athletes from having to start over each offseason.

True Athlete Performance offers Athlete Training at two facility locations:

We also provide Team Training on-site for schools, teams, and organizations throughout Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, and South-Central Pennsylvania.

Getting started begins by talking with our team. We’ll answer your questions, learn more about your athlete, and help determine the right next step.

If facility training is the right fit, your athlete will complete a FREE Athlete Analysis to establish a baseline for speed, agility, and power. After testing, we’ll review the results, identify the biggest opportunities for improvement, and recommend a training plan based on your athlete’s goals.

From there, your athlete can begin training through the TrueAP system and working toward measurable improvements in athletic performance.
